Nice to meet you!

Thanks for stopping by!  - AG

My communications expertise spans nearly two decades in local and regional journalism, education, lighting and interior design, architecture, and now currently plastics manufacturing. As a senior communications editor, I do a little bit of everything -- from public relations with trade news sources to creating content for the company's  newsletter to reviewing and writing ad copy.

In my time beyond the office I facilitate journaling workshops for a variety of New Jersey audiences, having done so in Livingston, Paramus, and Elizabeth. I have served women, children, the bereaved, and a rarity --  hosted Newark, NJ's first-ever all-male journaling workshop. My weekly podcast, I'm Speaking Now, explores the communication nuances of people across, digital, professional, intimate, social, and cultural dynamics.

I graduated from Morgan State University with a B.A. in English with concentrations in journalism and secondary education. My M.A. in English with a concentration in Women and Gender Studies was attained from Rutgers University - Newark. I am a mom of two, a boy and a girl, and we live in Central New Jersey.

Need more details? Pull up a chair.

I have written extensively about trends in lighting and accessories and have interviewed industry leaders/designers such as Yves Behar, Nadja Swarovski, and Torde Boontje as an associate editor at  Home Lighting & Accessories magazine where I served under the guidance of Linda Longo, now founder and editorial director of enLIGHTENment Magazine. I have also freelanced for Interior Design magazine's online news section Designwire Daily .

Before I indulged in writing about lighting and design, I cut my teeth in online news publishing when I was associate news producer at NJ.com under Dean Betz and before this, the sole newspaper reporter for The West Orange Chronicle under Anthony Puglisi.

Inspired by the challenges of stepparenting, I wrote No More Baby's Mama Drama, published via Kensington in 2005. I have since discussed such obstacles in The Star-LedgerSister2Sister and on New York City's former 98.7 KISS FM, where I was twice a guest. No longer married, I now explore the adventures of raising my two children as a divorced parent.

For just under a decade I was an educator at Arts High School in Newark and served as a 2014 summer instructor at Seton Hall Law School's NJ Law Education and Empowerment Program (2014 winner of the Excellence in Summer Learning Award). During my tenure as an English teacher I was awarded a 2008  Geraldine R. Dodge Fellowship and observed the effects of creative writing in rural destinations during a visit to the historic Puna district in Pahoa, Hawaii at the Kalani Oceanside Retreat.

I have conducted journaling workshops for women at several New Jersey institutions, including the Linda and Rudy Slucker NCJW Center for women. In addition, I have facilitated journaling workshops for the bereaved in conjunction with Atlantic Hospice as a component of grief counseling.

While being an educator is a core element of my interests, I have since returned to writing and communications full-time as a Senior Communications Editor for the largest integrated plastics manufacturer in North America.

I hold an M.A. in English, with a concentration in Women and Gender Studies from Rutgers University in Newark. I am working on a book that offers solutions for effective communication, a topic I cover in my podcast, I'm Speaking Now. From time to time, I will write a poem or two -- although not nearly as many as I did when I was a journalism student at Morgan State University. These days, in between mothering, interior decorating, and who-knows-what-else, you might catch me on the Chicago steppin' scene, a pastime that has inspired my blog, Gallion's Stepper Chronicles.

It's a full life -- why not live it?
